Sailing clubs are supporting a unique project to restore native oysters in Dublin Bay, which is spearheaded by coffee distributor David Lawlor of the not-for-profit Green Ocean Foundation. Dr Jose M. Fariñas-Franco, Lecturer at ATU, explains the importance of native oysters as reef building organisms, his recent research on their historical range and demise, and the current efforts to protect and restore the last remaining oyster beds in the west of Ireland.
