Gerard McGranaghan is a Lecturer and Researcher in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at ATU (Sligo Campus), with a career spanning advanced research, industrial innovation, and engineering education. He holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin in heat transfer and has expertise in thermal sciences, additive manufacturing, and energy systems. His research portfolio includes multiple funded PhD studentships, industry-led projects, and sustained collaboration with companies such as Nexalus, AbbVie, Masonite, Siemens Energy, and Ceramicx. Prior to academia, he held senior R&D roles in industry, where his work on infrared processing for aerospace composites directly led to major commercial contracts and successful EU-funded projects. His professional pathway—from mechanical apprenticeship through senior technical and research leadership—underpins a practice-led approach to teaching, research, and regional engagement.
