Personal Profile

Dr James Moran is a Senior Lecturer in Biology and Ecology at the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the Atlantic Technological University. James has worked in the applied ecology and agri-environmental management area for over 25 years as an advisor, researcher and academic. His research and outreach work concentrates on sustainable land use and agricultural systems with a particular focus on improving agri-environment policy and practice within a broader integrated land use system. Current projects include a range of national and international collaborations including EU LIFE Projects; Design of agri-environment schemes both in Ireland, the UK and Europe; Farmland and Forestry Systems for Biodiversity; and collaborations with a range of European Innovation Partnership operation groups across Ireland. He is a principal investigator at the Co-centre for Climate plus Biodiversity and Water, where he co-leads platform 3 – enabling fair transformations and is a co-director of the policy response unit. He has worked as an advisor on the expert advisory group of the Citizens Assembly on Biodiversity Loss in Ireland and on the advisory committee of the EU Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators. He is a member of the board of directors of the National Biodiversity Data Centre and an executive committee member of the Farming for Nature not-for-profit initiative.
