Dr Juan Manuel Real-Espinosa is a lecturer in the Department of Marketing, Tourism and Sports at Atlantic Technological University, Sligo. His research interests are in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL), Development and Evaluation of Language Learning Materials and Cognitive Linguistics Applied to Language Learning. It is also currently investigating the needs for language provision for students and industry in the West of Ireland.
He holds a PhD from University College Dublin in Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, a MA in Didactics of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the University of La Rioja and a BA in Hispanic Philology from the University of Seville. He has previously lectured at the Cervantes Institutes in Istanbul, Cairo and Dublin, at Fatih University in Istanbul and at University College Dublin (UCD). He was head of academic department of the Cervantes Institute in Porto Alegre (Brazil) from 2008 to 2016. He has collaborated as an associate lecturer in several master’s degrees in teaching Spanish as a foreign language and has participated in numerous international teacher training programmes for foreign language instructors.
