Dr. Salem S. Gharbia is the Head of the Department of Environmental Science and a Principal Investigator at Atlantic Technological University (ATU). Dr. Salem Gharbia is an internationally recognised researcher and expert on climate resilience and Environmental monitoring and modelling. Dr. Gharbia is the academic lead and coordinator for the EU-wide initiative Horizon 2020 SCORE project, in addition to his role as a co-founder and principal investigator on a number of strategic research centres, including the Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Intelligent Systems for Health and Environment (MISHE) and the Centre for Environmental Research Innovation and Sustainability (CERIS). Dr. Gharbia has worked in both academia and consultancy, and he holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin. Dr. Gharbia has excelled and been distinguished in all his studies, and he has received many awards and grants, such as Trinity College's prestigious Ussher award. Dr. Gharbia coordinates and partners on projects for the Irish EPA, Horizon Europe, Marine Institute, and SFI in the EU commission, and he is a Principal Investigator on a number of large-scale research and innovation projects such as EmpowerUS, Pro-climate, WaterFutures, Earth-HB, ClimateSCAN and Pro-coast. Dr. Gharbia has over 70 research publications, and he secured circa Euro 14M in research funding over the previous 5 years.
