Dr. Unnikrishnan is the programme chair for the MSc in Computing (Data Science) programme at ATU and is a senior member of the IEEE. She has secured over €3 million in funding for AI and Computer Vision research through various national and EU funding streams. She leads a TU RISE Postgraduate Research Training Programme at ATU, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and two Research Ireland funded ARC Hub translational projects, one shaping an AI-assisted computer vision solution for measuring pre-surgical tumour volume, and another enabling solubility characterisation of dairy powder using Deep Learning, potentially initiating spin-outs. She has been nominated as a national delegate from Ireland in the management committee of two European COST actions – 1) the GliMR consortium focusing on AI in neuro-oncology and 2) CYPHER, which stands for Cyber-Physical systems and digital twins for the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries.

• Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation fund worth €400,933 in 2022.

• Patent: Authored and filed a patent in 2019, in multiple jurisdictions, for a pioneering AI-enabled computer vision solution designed to enhance pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

• Technology Transfer: Successfully conducted pilot trials of a computer vision technology in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in the UK in 2020, underscoring the commercial viability and innovation of the developed technology, marking a key milestone in technology adoption by industry.

• Secured two President’s bursary awards and two CUA bursary awards worth €400,000 in 2021/22.
• Interreg European Regional Development fund for STRAND 4 CO-INNOVATE programme in 2021.
• HEA pStem Role Models funding as a Co-PI with UCD and TUD in 2021.
• SFI Discover fund as a Co-PI in 2019.
• Irish Higher Education Authority’s Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions in 2003
• Best oral presentation award at the Microscopy Society of Ireland Annual Symposium 2018.
