    Personal profile

    Research Interests

I am a Lecturer in Economics at Atlantic Technological University, Galway. My research investigates loneliness, social isolation, and social exclusion among older adults, with particular attention to marginalised groups and the role of time and temporality in shaping lived experience. A key strand of my work explores the impact of digitalisation on ageing, participation, and connectedness. My approach is interdisciplinary, combining economics, disability studies, and gerontology, and I integrate quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methods. I place strong emphasis on public and patient involvement (PPI) and co-creation to ensure inclusive research design and impact. I have contributed to nationally and internationally funded projects including PLACED-Lives, DISCIT, DARE, and OTOH.

    Research Supervision

I am currently supervising three doctoral students across economics, health, and digitalisation. Two are PhD students funded through the TU RISE programme: one within IDEAS, examining health outcomes for socially excluded older adults in the age of digitalisation; and one within THRIVE, exploring digital health literacy among adolescents. In addition, I supervise a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student whose research focuses on digital investment platforms for millennials and how these shape investment strategies. My supervisory interests span digital health, social exclusion, ageing, and the intersection of technology and society, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research.

    Teaching Profile

I am a Lecturer in Economics with over a decade of experience teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programmes. I lecture on modules including Principles of Economics, Research Methods, Global Capital and Financial Markets, and Intermediate Macroeconomics. My teaching philosophy is grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), ensuring accessibility and inclusion for all students. I embed digital tools and online learning platforms to enhance engagement, flexibility, and collaboration, while using authentic, research-informed assessment to foster critical thinking and applied skills. I continually adapt my practice through reflective teaching and feedback, with a focus on creating equitable, student-centred learning environments.

    Professional Memberships

I am an active member of several professional bodies and research networks, including the Irish Software Research Centre (LERO), the International Association for Time Use Research (IATUR), the Research and Innovation Centre (DICE), the Health and Biomedical Strategic Research Centre (HEAL), the Loneliness Taskforce Research Network, the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the Smart Healthy Age-Friendly Environments (SHAFE) Foundation, and the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland (SSISI).

    External Positions

I serve as an External Reviewer for the Department of Management and Enterprise at Munster Technological University. In this role, I contribute to quality assurance and curriculum development through independent review and evaluation of academic programmes.
