Abstract

In the present study, the quality parameters of potable water of Kohat Division, Pakistan was examined. Water samples were collected from different area of Kohat Division and analysed for organoleptic tests (colour, odor and taste), pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), temporary and permanent hardness, total hardness as CaCOi3; cations such as calcium (Ca+2) and magnesium (Mg+2) and anions like chloride (Cl-1), sulfate (SO4-2), nitrate (NO3-1) and nitrite (NO2-1). The results were compared with World Health Organization (WHO) standards and with the water quality characteristics of other regions of the province. The results showed that all the tested parameters are within the permissible limits determining the suitability of water for drinking and other household purposes. The lethal effects of the tested parameters on human health have also been discussed.
