Abstract
To date 211 species of the family Carabidae (Coleoptera) or ground beetles have been recorded in Ireland (Anderson et al. 2000). Many of these species are under-recorded in Ireland and as such, their status and habitat preferences are not fully understood. These records are from turlough habitats, the importance of which has been recognised through their designation as Natural Heritage Areas (NHAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs).
