Abstract

In this paper, we present PW-SA-MAC, an asynchronous energy efficient duty cycle MAC protocol. Similar to RI-MAC, PW-SA-MAC employs receiver-initiated transmissions with a sender-assisted contention resolution. PW-SA-MAC enables senders to wake up at predicted times according to the receiver’s schedule. We evaluate PW-SA-MAC using ns-2 and compare it to RI-MAC and SA-RI-MAC, under clique, grid, and random networks. In random network scenarios, the average duty cycle of PW-SA-MAC is 66% less compared to RI-MAC and SA-RI-MAC.
