Abstract

This paper presents the development of a new stacked circular patch antenna at 2.45 GHz for communication between sensor nodes attached at different locations on a human body in medical body area networks. The antenna exhibits a bandwidth of 3.7 % centered at 2.45 GHz, when placed (2mm) above from a muscle tissue phantom. The antenna gives a radiation pattern similar to that of a conventional monopole antenna, which is a requisite for on-body communication. The on-body efficiency of the proposed antenna is 55.12 % which is good considering its low profile nature.
