Abstract

Low rectal anastomoses are a specialist technique that may be encountered by gynaecologist. Whether a stapled or handsewn technique is to be used it is essential that the basics of good surgical practice is adhered to at all times. It is also important that the operator is adept at both stapled and handsewn techniques to ensure technical difficulties in the pelvis will not prevent restoration of bowel continuity.
